Principal Architect--M365

Microsoft 365 (M365) is a leading provider of modern workspace cloud services, enhancing communication, collaboration, and productivity. It is trusted by hundreds of millions of organizations globally, including those in sovereign clouds. A vital component of this system is the M365 directory service, which offers top-tier identity services to millions of organizations and billions of users, processing trillions of requests daily. The M365 Directory team is tasked with the development and maintenance of the M365 directory service, covering the entire spectrum of the cloud service tech stack from bottom to top. This includes distributed persistent storage, local and cloud-based caching, API access, data synchronization and relocation, among others. We are currently investing heavily in modernizing our entire technical stack, embracing a range of exciting new technologies. We are ready to take on the challenges that come our way, with the aim of building the largest and most efficient directory service in the world. We are looking for a Principal Architect to join our team. Responsibilities As a Principal Architect in our team, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership at both business and technology levels. You will be a key member of our engineering leadership team, drive critical design initiatives, participate in strategic & tactical decisions, and collaborate with internal partner teams. You will be accountable for shipping service offerings that succeed with our customers. In this role you will:
Lead the technical direction and vision for the architecture, design, and the modernization of the M365 directory service that scales to serve millions of organizations and billions of users.
Mentor and help grow a team of talented, diverse software engineers.
Work across organizations, collaborating with partner teams.
Provide leadership for the architecture of secure, distributed, scalable, and resilient identity services using modern technologies.
Raise the technical bar, maintain a data and results driven culture, and nurture a high-performance team to build world-class experiences for M365 users. Qualifications Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Science or other technical field
10+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping apps and/or services.
Excellent technical design skills and proven ability to drive large scale system designs for commercial projects or products
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to completion
Fluent English communication skill Preferred Qualifications:
Strong coding, debugging and problem-solving skills
Expertise in developing large scale services
Ability to quickly ramp up, understand complex problems, and create solutions across many products
Great communication skills to collaborate cross-group and work effectively within the team
Strong drive to learn new technologies and stay updated with the latest industry trends
Demonstrated initiative with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and take the lead on implementing changes
Keen interest in mentoring early in career engineers
