About this role:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Publisher to join our talented team in China.

The Publisher is responsible for the maintenance and development of a list of Health Sciences journals across all business models and ownership types. The Publisher will continuously and proactively evaluate the performance of the program as it relates to Wiley and department objectives. This role will provisionally include many partner journals in all aspects of the health sciences.

How you will make an impact:

• Works across internal and external stakeholders to meet and exceed objectives with regard to content growth, including submissions, acceptances and published articles.
• Presents journal development performance and strategic plans to editors and society partners, negotiating with partners and driving the right behaviors.
• Understands industry trends, how they related to Wiley and the portfolio and is able to communicate the potential implications and opportunities to stakeholders.
• Knows how to build and communicate a business case to gain support and resource/investment for publishing development ideas.
• Manages Editor performance independently and meets regularly with journal Editors to review and report performance.
• Develop a deep network of contacts within the relevant field and engages on a consistent basis to gain insight and ideas and seize on opportunities that may present a competitive advantage.
• Organizes, maintains, and reports on activities to the Associate Director and Senior Director in a timely manner.

Main Responsibilities:

• Develop subject area to grow submissions and published output

• Works on a complex, high value/high potential list of partnership and proprietary, open access and hybrid (editorial model) journals.
• Creates plans and activities identified in the annual journal development planning cycle.
Develops new commercial opportunities for Wiley including new launches and flips.

• Drive OA publishing at scale:

• Proactively manages performance of external journal editors.
• Identifies opportunities to drive growth by optimizing the current editorial model.
Collaborates closely with Publishing Solutions & Performance team to implement initiatives that drive efficiency and productivity.

• Build and nurture internal and external partner relationships

• Demonstrates ability to build relationships in a publishing context. Independently manages performance of external Editors/ editorial boards, including complex relationships, e.g. with societies and partners.
• Explains and communicates complex issues in research and research publishing in an insightful manner.
Delivers webinars, talks and workshops aimed at driving submissions.

What we look for:

• Bachelors degree and above. PhD in related subject area is desired.
• Ahigh degree of awareness of trends in publishing, understanding of major industry trends and how they impact Wiley.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships in a publishing context that get results.
• Experience working on a complex, high value/high potential list of society-owned and proprietary, open access and hybrid (editorial model) journals.
• Ability to build relationships with external stakeholders in a publishing context.
Ability to create impactful and insightful proposals to gain support and buy in for proposed solutions.
